Map of Bowden Middlecale – 1640

“A true mape or plote of the division of such part of the wastes and commons within the cunnstaberie of Bowden Middlecale thereof as were not formerly divided made and divided into two equal parts by us the surveyors…….this 18th day of August Anno Don 1640”.  The original name of Hayfield and New Mills was “Bowden Middlecale”.  This was the original survey, dividing the Kings Part and the Tenants Part, into two equal parts.  Note that Stones House is there but the ASHES, which is to the right, has not yet been deeded.  That happened in 1641
